About Ellen
Ellen “Ell” Brabo is a U.S. Army Veteran, small business owner, and proud resident of Washington, North Carolina. She is the founder of The Ell Hotel, a boutique hotel that has quickly become a beloved part of the local hospitality scene.
Ellen chose to make Washington her home because it’s a town that values community over competition—a principle that shaped her journey as a new business owner. From day one, she felt the support and encouragement of Washington’s business community, and she remains deeply committed to preserving and uplifting the town’s welcoming spirit.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce, the Washington Harbor District Alliance, and Heart for ENC. She is a graduate of Leadership Beaufort through the Chamber and previously chaired the Beaufort County Young Professionals. Ellen has also served on the Washington-Warren Airport Authority and was selected to participate on the Beaufort County Schools Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year Selection Panels. In 2024, Ellen was named Young Professional of the Year by the Chamber.
A graduate of SUNY Brockport, Ellen earned her degree in Political Science and International Relations before serving as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Army. She transitioned out of military service in 2020 and moved to Washington the following year to open The Ell Hotel.
Ellen is also a community advocate, the local coordinator of the 15th Street Coalition, and a member of the Pentagon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her husband Jake—a full-time master’s student at Liberty University and personal trainer at Athletic Edge—live in town with their dog Sami. Outside of work, Ellen enjoys kayaking the Pamlico, running, hiking, photography, and travel. She is a member of Harbor Church in Chocowinity, driven by her Christian faith and a deep love for serving others.
A new chapter for Washington begins with bold ideas and honest leadership. It’s time for a mayor who sees what’s possible.
